Super Material Airloy , The Strongest Gel!

The most versatile material in the world may be here, and it's going to change everything. Aerogels have been around for a while, but new innovations have made the technology even better and more useful. An aerogel is a low-density solid created through the extraction of liquid from the gel using the process of  supercritical drying . Most commonly, aerogels are made of silica, yet this material makes the super-light solid incredibly brittle. After years of research, scientists from NASA and other independent companies have created a new product,  airloy . Airloys are a new class of advanced engineering materials that combine the strength of conventional plastics with the low density and superinsulating properties of aerogels.  Airloys are  strong, stiff, and tough  and are among the world’s best  thermal and acoustic insulators .  Like classic aerogels, airloys exhibit  ultra high internal surface area  and can be  electrical...

What makes your N95 mask so special?

The N95 mask is made up of synthetic plastic fibers . This fibers are similar to the fibers in synthetic and polyester shirts many people wear. But what actually is special about it? The plastic fibers is made up of the polymer polypropylene. Polypropylene is so efficient that it can filter out both large and small particles . The efficiency of N95 is 95% just because of this magical filter material polypropylene. The reason for this efficiency of polypropylene is that its fibers have a random arrangement , imagine a spaghetti on a plate. This randomness enables high particle filtration while remaining highly breathable . So this is the secret material behind the safety of almost everyone. Polypropylene is extensively used for mask productions to ensure our safety from viruses.

There is one more reason for such high efficiency of the N95 mask. It is called the electrostatic filtering . On the filtration layer of the mask an electrostatic charge is already present , this stationary electric charge attract and trap the 0.3 micron particles this are the fluid droplets containing viruses. The nominal 55nm particles are allowed to pass through N95, this are negatively charged particles while the positively charged and neutral particles are trapped by the N95 mechanism.
